Glad to hear there were no injuries, and no significant damage.
I know reason can sympathize with this!
I was taking the kids into school this morning, around 8 a.m. I was following a school bus (driving east, rising sun) and had stopped for one stop, and the bus stopped again, flashers on, sign out, so I stopped too, well back.
Well, a guy came up behind me, sun in his eyes, didn't see us stopped! and rear-ended us. Nobody hurt in either car, some car damage, mostly cosmetic on my rear bumper (but you don't know if internal shock absorbance in the bumper was damaged) and a fair amount of damage on the front of his car. I called the police and they were going to come as time allowed because no one was hurt.
The kids and I were off to the side on the grassy berm, the guy that hit us was in front of his car looking at the damage, and ANOTHER car came up and rear-ended his stopped car! And pushed his car into him, he went up onto the hood. So I called the police again and said there was another accident, and this time there were injuries. (So we got a faster response.)
So, the guy was okay, scrapes/bruises/split lip, no broken bones. I wrote out a report and signed it, they took my license info and sent me on my way. The guy behind me had instant karma for rear-ending me, I guess. His car was towed after being damaged front and back. I don't know if the woman who hit him was able to drive her car or not.
Glad to hear there were no injuries, and no significant damage.
Happy to hear you and your young ones were undamaged.
Just goes to show there are some stupid stupid people driving and you can never relax your guard.
Yow! Glad you're OK. That morning sun is blinding!

Reason will back me up on this. We simply DO NOT tolerate scratches or dents on cars around here.

The same thing happened to my husband a week or so ago.
Be prepared to have medical centers and lawyers, by the dozens, calling you and sending mail to you wanting you to come in for a "check-up" and wanting you to fill out paperwork for a lawsuit. That is if the police were called. Of course, they all will want a percentage of what you get. Because as soon as the "police report" is made public your phone will start ringing and your mailbox will overflow with "offers" of "help".
No one was injured and there was very little damage to either car so we told all callers "NO!" and ignored the mailings.
Ok, when I first saw the title of this thread, I confess I thought it was of GL's origination. Not to ever make light of a car accident, but with my error I was thinking that the title was just too good to be true.
Well, one of my friends that was in a similar accident a while back, and she said that her bumper did not seem too badly damaged, but the shock absorbent material inside the bumper had been "used up", and in a subsequent collision it would not offer protection.
I talked with the insurance people, and I am going to get an estimate for the repairs. What a nuisance!
Sorry about that Gae, the trashed vehicle will not be repaired before Saturday.

AL be sure to have your vehicle looked at too mechanically speaking. I was in a rear end accident in 2000 in my old Lincoln. Didn't even damage the bumper, but: the tension made the drive shaft bind up and the next day it broke off on the highway. If you have a front wheel drive car probably not an issue, but to be on the safe side have it checked out nonetheless.
